Built to capture the breathtaking views of the Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke Island, past Rangitoto and right the way up to downtown Auckland’s Sky Tower. Where barely 20 meters from the sea, the waves gently lap onto the small beach below.

The north facing balconies allow a full day of sunshine and its proximity to the sea allows the beach to be accessed from the bach’s front door. Idylic.


‘Plane Sailing’ is our beach house revival of the much loved New zealand bach, however it has all the modern day conveniences that can only enhance your ‘holiday of a lifetime’. Built about 10 years ago in the quieter Omana section of the village Maratai, it allows visitor to be part of the coastal environment whilst enjoying the modern comforts that we take for granted today.

If you have a love of the sea within you, then ‘Plane Sailing’ is the place to be. For walkers, joggers and cyclists it’s just yards from the front door to a newly constructed coastal footpath, that connects Maratai with Beachlands and beyond. Numerous other footpaths which criss cross the area can be accessed from the coastal footpath, each providing its own piece of stunning scenery.

For those that need to be closer still to the sea there is provision at ‘Plane Sailing’ for fishing, windsurfing, kite surfing, and sailing, weather permitting. For those less adventurous, safe swimming, paddling and beachcombing are available in front of the bach where a small beach is just yards away.

The name Maraetai is Maori for ‘A meeting place by the sea’. The village has a population of a few hundred people with enough facilities to make it self contained, but not so many it becomes a major tourist destination. It is located 20 miles east of Auckland International Airport or 20 miles south east of Centra Auckland. The Pohutukawa Coast is one of Auckland’s most spectacular driving routes, named after the beautiful red-flowering trees fringing its shoreline. Take in the magnificent views of Waiheke, Ponui, and Pakihi Islands in the Hauraki Gulf as you go. On the waterfront of the village, overlooking the small harbour, is the impressive sailing/fishing clubhouse, always a hive of activity at the weekends, with both sailing and pleasure fishing boats enjoying the perfect conditions that the summer months bring (

Only a few miles away, facilities to stock up the larder and the beer fridge at the neighbouring village of Beachlands or take advantage of a scenic ferry service into Auckland city from the delightful and very trendy Pine Harbour, otherwise a car journey into the centre of Auckland takes less than an hour.

The accomadation consists of the top three floors of the four floored beach house which runs down a gentle slope towards the sea. There are three bedrooms, the master bedroom with en suite has access to the wrap around balcony with its stunning views of the Hauraki Gulf. The second and third bedrooms are comfortable doubles with access to the family bathroom. The open plan kitchen and lounge have full length noth facing fold back doors with access to the wrap around balcony and stunning views to the north. The north facing wide balcony is sun drenched all day and allows views that are simply stunning. There is a double garage next to the entrance door for parking cars or storing recreational items.

To keep the bach experience exclusive, bed and breakfast accomadation consists of just one double bedroom with en suite facilities. This room has stunning views to the north and east and a private access to the main north facing balcony. Breakfast can be served on the sun drenched balcony or in the open plan breakfast room, both of which overlook the Hauraki Gulf.

The top three levels can be rented in its entirity subject to a minimum of a 4 night booking.

For the B&B we require a £10 non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. Please email or call us with your required dates and we will send you an email confirming dates, with a link to pay the deposit. Once this is paid the booking is confirmed. For the holiday let we require a 20% deposit to secure the booking; cancellation terms and conditions weill be sent with the booking confirmation.



Please contact us IMMEDIATELY if your circumstances change and you need to cancel your accommodation.

Holiday Let

Our terms for holding your booking are as follows:

A deposit of 20% of the total cost of the booking will be required to secure the dates requested. Until this is received your dates are still available for other guests.

After the booking is secured the following conditions will apply:

Up to two months notice of cancellation before the first date the booking commences-a full deposit refund less a £10 administration fee will be made.

After two months, and before two weeks notice of cancellation before the first date the booking commences-50% of deposit is forfeit.

Cancellation within two weeks before the first date the booking commences 100% deposit is forfeit.

We expect the booking balance to be paid at least seven days before your arrival, and we will contact you at this time to remind you the balance is due if we have not received it.


We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy. If a booking is cancelled more than 48 hours before 4pm on day of arrival the room price less the non refundable deposit of £10.00 per room will not be charged. Within 48 hours, full room price is charged if the room cannot subsequently be re-let. Full room price is charged on failure to arrive without prior warning.
